Whether your current air conditioner is not working anymore, costing you too much in repairs, or simply past it's life choosing a new system can be overwhelming. We're going to explain four categories that will make your decision simple, easy, and informative. HVAC information.
Houston Air conditioner information: Choosing the wrong tonnage can cost you hundreds of dollars in wasted energy. So how do you choose tonnage? First you have to know BTUs and your square footage. 1 ton equals 12,000 BTU. That means we will need 0.0016 tons per square foot.
To make it even easier; hvac information you need 1 ton for every 600 sq ft.
Example: 1200 sq ft needs a 2 ton unit. Or 3,000 sq ft needs a 5 ton unit.
SEER stands for ‘Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio’. The SEER rating of a unit is the cooling output during a typical cooling-season divided by the total electric energy input during the same period. But you're here to make it easy to understand how to decide. Here's an explanation without a lot of math.. The difference between SEER 16 and SEER 14 is about 62$/year. In other words, a SEER 16 air conditioner is 13% more efficient than SEER 14. The average expected life of a unit is 10years.
$62 x 10 = $620
So if a contractor is offering a 16 SEER for less than $620 more than a 14 SEER, then that's your choice.
There are so many good brands out there but we're only going to mention the top three. Rheem, Trane, and Carrier.
